“So happy I found Anne! I had some conceptions that a nutritionist/dietician would not be of much benefit to me as I consider myself pretty knowledgeable about various diets and how to eat healthy. “I have to start by saying I was in the typical fighting-a-losing-battle loop with my health. I looked bad, I felt bad, my numbers were bad. Everything was bad, bad, bad. My doctor asked if I wanted to talk to someone about diet and nutrition and I said yes. I definitely needed help getting on a healthier path and I knew I could not do it by myself. My doctor referred me to the Anne Till Nutrition Group. I filled out the really long forms online. And yes, I was honest. Then I went in for the dreaded first appointment. I was assigned to Sydney Mitchel. It was a long appointment with lots of talking. Lots of listening and answering questions so Sydney could help tailor her suggestions for me specifically. Even in that first appointment, I was blown away with the knowledge Sydney was sharing with me. It was not just a list of lose-weight-quick meals with a good luck pat on the back as I walked out the door. “I've been struggling with feeling comfortable in my skin for some time now. Having a few medical issues and several surgeries over the past few years has really set my health back, this on top of having a family history of high cholesterol, I felt like I was at my wits end. I met with Avril who explained how "food" works, when is a good time to eat certain things and had my Ah-ha moment. I'm currently only about 2-3 weeks into my new way of eating and am down a few lbs. For the first time in a long time it feels like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Some things to note: *I wasn't aware until I called the office to make my appointment, insurance does cover a specific amount of hours to meet with Avril, so check your insurance! *This is not a quick fix. “Several years ago I began to gain weight. Like most middle-aged women I thought it was my age. At the time I had what I believed was a healthy eating regime. I have always been an active person, going to the gym since I was in my teens. This just was not making sense to me. Doctor after doctor looked at me as if I was lying about my eating habits and activity as the scale seemed to tell a different story. I cannot tell you how frustrating this was! Twelve years ago I was diagnosed with a thyroid condition. Adding thyroid medication helped and I slowly (over a 10 year period) lost about 25 of the 40 pounds I gained. I finally decided that I should see a dietician to determine if there was something I could change in my diet. In my first appointment Avril identified aspartame in my daily Diet Coke as a potential culprit; I soon realized the sugar-free cough drops I had been using since a respiratory virus had been the additional source of aspartame that kicked off all the symptoms that had left me so ill for 7 weeks. I used to live on a bland, carbohydrate-heavy diet to accommodate my constant GI issues. Once off all aspartame I discovered that I could eat much more of the nutritious foods (especially the raw fruits and vegetables I had mostly had to avoid) than I had been able to tolerate for decades. “Two years ago, I was at my highest weight, 185 lbs. I was feeling tired all the time so I had an examination by my primary doctor. After the exam, I was told that I was pre-diabetic and needed to make an appointment with dietitian and nutritionist Anne Till. “I've driven past this business daily for over a year. One day, my "intuition" told me to check them out. I've been obese since childhood, and I'm also a new mother (HELLO highest weight ever! Ugh.) I've never seen a nutritionist before. I was nervous, ashamed of my habits, and unsure what I was getting myself into. They scheduled my first appointment and we went from there....
